Life is what you make it. It truly is! Have a close look at your life. Your day to day life. Your weekends. Your holidays. Your ‘just for fun’ activities. Are you happy with the life you have created? With how your time is spent, and with whom it’s spent with?
Some of you may have heard that a dear friend of mine passed away suddenly earlier this year from cancer. I was so grateful to be able to fly home and spend a few days with him after I had heard the terrible news. We spent hours laughing and talking and reminiscing. It was lovely, yet so very tragic at the same time.
You see, when I met my friend back in the late 90’s, he was a happy guy with so much going for him. He was well known around town and had many friends. Together we had many dreams and aspirations, and we worked together for quite a while. But sadly over time, due to many different circumstances, things changed for him, and when he died, so many of his dreams were left unfulfilled.
I remember clearly when he told me (many years ago) that he wanted to move to Darwin or QLD. He often asked what it was like up here, and I would encourage him to make the move! He thought it would be great for him career wise and a step in the right direction for his son. But this, along with many other dreams he had, never eventuated. There was always a reason why ‘it’ couldn’t be done. And I’m so very sad every time I think of this.
My life has been full of ups and downs, and looking back, I can see that almost every single ‘down’ was the result of something I did, or didn’t do. I was responsible for almost everything! (with a few exceptions of course).
I’ve made many big (and tough) decisions on my own. Some were the right decision, and some weren’t. I have learned from every single one, and tried so very hard to make the right decisions even in the midst of the choas that would always reign upon me after making a bad one.
None of this was easy, but all of it was worth it. So i’d love for you to try and do the same.
It’s your life and you only get to live it once. Find what will help you to live a happier life and start figuring out how to get more of that into your world!
For me it’s tropical destinations, beaches, exploring, travelling, dancing, exercising, photography and cooking … those are the things that make me happy! Plus of course sleep, mindfulness, down-time etc. 😊
My family, my dog Sprocket and best friend Momo make me happy too. We can’t forget making time for those that we love – and those who reciprocate that love 😊
What makes you happy? And how can you make it happen? What changes do you need to make?
What a great time to start doing this … the end of the old year and the start of a brand new 2018!
